ArtUP - Vol. 3
Uniray describes Tribal Spirit as, “a generative collection combining primitive flow lines with natural earth and ‘wooden’ colors, in a harmonic decorative composition.…”. It was the harmonic decorative composition and the palette that first drew my eye. As I learned more about the piece, I was hooked by its interactive nature.

[dev update] Optimizing images
We've just rolled out a feature aiming at improving and optimizing how we serve and display image medias on our website. This article takes a deep dive into the problems we've observed and the solutions we have implemented.
Glyphs II
In a world of war, habitat destruction, misogyny, poverty, and pandemics, it can be hard to maintain any equanimity. Everywhere we turn there is a politician or an influencer determined to keep each of us in a state of alarm to the benefit of their own status, power, and greed. And these pale in comparison to those actively and brutally imposing their will on others to the point of loss of life and liberty.
ArtUp - Vol. 4
When I started this publication, I announced that it would be weekly-ish. It's definitely been "ish" for this latest instance. Life, as it does, got in the way. This issue is a departure in another way as well. I have previously highlighted a set of artists, and I will be doing that again in future. In this issue, however, I want to highlight the broader issue of under-represented artists on the fx(hash) platform and suggest some ideas for creating a more diverse community.
!=Human Doing
I am fascinated by symbols, marks, & texts that are just outside our ability to read in the common sense of the word. I am also deeply drawn to those fleeting moments when we escape our lot as thinking creatures and access our intuitive selves. I believe that our deepest truth lies in those moments. Art, especially abstract, non-representational art, pulls me into a state of nonverbal communication. Briefly, I exist outside my normal mode of human doing. I become for an instant a human being.
The spectrum of nature - a short making of
A quick overview of some main concepts and technical parts of “The spectrum of nature”. With an emphasis on keeping it fun and light.
Polymorph
This article is a description of the creative process and mathematical techniques used to create the NFT 'Polymorph'. As a modern artist in digital media we are committed to sharing techniques and methods to help and inspire others. This is based on a firm belief in the limitless nature of human creativity and a desire to embrace and contribute to the current global explosion of personal and financially rewarding digital expression. If anyone uses or is inspired by any of the ideas here please do get in touch. We would love to see your work.
Generating Realistic Textiles
Over the past year we have created several pieces based on realistic looking textiles. We love to see generative art which calls us to imagine what it would feel like to be able to touch its surface. In this article we explain in some detail how we have achieved near photo-realistic textiles with p5.js.
Serendipity
When working IRL with light, chemistry, and photosensitive paper, I work intuitively. In a dance with forces that operate within their own complex interactions, I watch and react, making split-second decisions and moving quickly to exaggerate or retard what I see happening. I am the conductor of a somewhat unruly orchestra. It occurs to me that experimental photography is a very generative process - it just isn’t centered in code and its variability is driven by physics rather than math. Perhaps it is no wonder that I am drawn to both genArt and the fringes of photographic practice.
Spinning EDDY
When it started to get cold in California and the sky was often gray with rain, I wanted to add some more colors to my life. EDDY started as a project just for me, to brighten up the walls and rainy mornings. I fell in love with the initial outputs and it evolved into something more. Here I will share some work-in-progress images, technical details, and a couple of secret keys to change the output.

Params & WYSIWYG - How I Did It
Not being a web developer but rather someone who has learned enough p5.js to get by, I will share here how I implemented my first fx(params) WYSIWYG project. My hope is that my approach will be useful to others in a similar situation. Use at your own risk, but please share any mistakes or improvements you find so that I can post a correction. The example used is my recent project, "Polaroids".
