Komšije (kohm-shee-ye) means 'neighbors' in Serbian. It is an exploration of architectural massing and composition based on and the golden ratio and a sense of community.

"Fields of Magnolia" is a generative art project focusing on the diversity of magnolia flowers. It showcases two large magnolia flowers surrounded by smaller ones, highlighting the variety in colors and petal numbers.

This project aligns with my previous work in exploring commonly used techniques such as noise fields, line superpositions, transparencies, and collision detection.

"Fields of Magnolia" combines the natural beauty of flowers with digital art, offering a simple yet diverse portrayal of magnolias through modern generative techniques.

This explores the modern retro, in the complex digitally-led world of today.
Taking the simple pixel imagary from video games of the 70s and 80s and using the core patterns to create something new and relevant to our overwhelming digital overload.

The original games used cell film to colour the graphics and this work takes that approach and uses layers of pattern and colour to create new dense worlds.
The modern graphical representation of the invaders as street art style graffiti, breaking through the digital detritus.

Machine 15: In too deep is a generative work that produces different compositions of jellyfish floating in the water. It has a very broad range of variation (5 compositions, 5 jellyfish styles and 10 colorways). 
It is the most elaborate machine of Tom Luyten to date, and is currently under development. The individual styles and compositions are in the stage of finetuning. More color schemes need to be developed and the work needs to be translated to the P5js language in order to live on the FxHash platform.

TECTONICA represents the final remnants of the Universe's vast computer, a layered stratum of glitched, galaxy-sized digital memory banks. These calcified data deposits have accumulated over eons, forming physical tectons that span light-years of space. They offer a glimpse into the fundamental building blocks employed by a forgotten alien civilization, which encoded its entire culture as digital data in physical form. While the specifications for this stellar machine have been lost to time, its fractured components continue to perform computations, seemingly trapped in an eternal loop. We can observe the inner workings of this enigmatic structure, but its true meaning remains forever silent, its message encrypted. TECTONICA serves as an artistic exploration of this fictional world and its algorithm-driven deep-space geology.

I draw my inspiration primarily from the realm of science, particularly mathematics and physics, and this artwork follows that trend.

The central concept revolves around combining a series of fluctuation equations with varying phases and frequencies to observe their interference. Each wave affects the others, either augmenting or diminishing their amplitudes. Every pixel vibrates in response to the waves passing through it, accumulating color and generating additional waves, thereby establishing a feedback loop.

Reflection

Seven - a magical, mystical number, cross culturally considered lucky, significant in many religions, numerologically meaning spiritually complete, fulfilled.
It is the most common favourite number.
So why seven? 
The largest prime number below ten. 
Three is a triangle, simple and stable. 
Five is half of ten, a friend to every child learning their multiplication tables. 
Seven is complex, inscrutable.
We have created a design with seven colours. 
It is constructed from square tiles which connect at one, two, three or four points on each side, which yeilds a total of seventy possibilities. 
But more than this we have attempted to capture the essence of seven in patterns which are inscrutable, interesting, surprising and alive. 
Ranging from controlled chaos to almost uniformly repeating we hope to engage the viewer's mind in curiosity.

This generative art project immerses viewers in the retro aesthetics of 90s computers, tapping into the nostalgia of a bygone era. The algorithm, inspired by the playfulness of childhood, creates whimsical, childish paintings reminiscent of a time when computers were new and learning happened through wild exploration.

Designed to mimic the uninhibited creativity of a child at play, the algorithm produces artworks with pixelated charm, vibrant colors, and blocky shapes.This generative art project becomes a nostalgic time capsule, rekindling the joy of learning through play in the digital landscape of childhood.

“Dialog” utilizes the familiar language of computer dialog boxes to explore the intricate nature of binary choice. With buttons offering a range of options from the weighty to the playful, the project invites introspection, challenging individuals to reconsider the depth inherent in seemingly simplistic decisions while fostering the occasional smile.

Confluencias is the study of harmonic motion through a generative system, intending to evoke a sense of tranquility where concentric lines converge creating a subtle interplay of colors. This generative artwork is part of the artist’s ongoing research on perpetual motion, presenting a serene animation where form and color harmonize seamlessly.

As the theme is "colorful," I tried to create a work inspired by playing with blocks, which I loved to do as a child.

Well out of my figurative comfort-zone, I am happy to be releasing for the first time on Eth thru fxhash.

Many details are not finalized yet including the name, but this release is all about soft, glowing detail to give the impression of hidden worlds.

One thing for sure, outputs will be wildly variable, and often surprise with their forms and compositions.

This has been an eye-opener.... It's given me a huge confidence boost in experimenting outside of nature-based genart, and sets many future paths to explore.

This work represents the interaction and flow of objects of various scales through animation and audio.

Even seemingly stable phenomena are in constant flux when viewed on different scales of size and time, and there is no such thing as an unchanging situation. Each object is as small as a grain of sand when viewed as a whole, and no single object alone can affect the whole, but is swallowed up by the larger currents and fleetingly disappears, emitting a fleeting color.

New media artist and educator who works with ecology and the natural world, focusing on spatialized sound installations.

Hashnadoes is a performative play on the bits and texts that make generative and interactive art work. Open in live view and give access to your device’s camera to make the swirling tornadoes follow your motion on screen. Their look and feel - spinning, text-based slices of alphanumerals, from bottom to top - are generated from, and made of, your unique fxHash.

Attributes include color - where the palettes reference planetary bodies, as we nerd out on what kind of weather systems could be on other planets - number of tornadoes, rain, wind, speed, attraction, and a few rare surprises.

There's No Distance is a new long-form generative art release in the Still Life series, created for fxhash and the It Doesn't Exist (In Any Other Form) exhibition at the bitforms gallery in New York on view 9 November 2023 – 12 January 2024. The Still Life series includes the original ten Still Life software artworks dating 2016–2023, An Empty Room at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2023, and 923 Empty Rooms released through Bright Moments and Art Blocks in 2023. This generative system is a further evolution of the code that created the HSB-119-006-090-1366-618 / HSB-135-006-090-1232-687 woodblock prints in 2015, the origin for all of this work.

Once upon a time, in the realm of the lines, there rested a world overlooked by the atmospheric views of hills, christened as Harmonious Hill. A world, where the sun, the moon, and the stars were born out of infinite circles effortlessly looping. A world that was bathed utterly in monochrome hues of the cosmic palette.

It was once teeming with life, laughter, and colors before the great apocalypse. A disaster so colossal, that it wiped out all color, replacing it with an eternal melancholy of black and white. 

The Harmonious Hill, though stripped of its vibrancy, stood resiliently against time. The skies were filled with perpetual fog, a reminder of the long-lost days. The vertical and curvy hills, once gliding into vibrant valleys, now housed derelict and deserted towns. 

The Taiga trees, bound by the monochrome, delineated themselves as large silhouettes against the never-ending horizontal line of the sky, whispering tales of the catastrophic past to the lonely artists. The haunting echoes of the past continued to reverberate, ironically absorbed by these mute trees.

Amid the somber monotones, the lone survivors were the birds. Soaring across the gloomy apartment buildings, their elegiac songs spun tales of lost epochs in the cold air, threading through the silent trees and melancholy fog.

One day, a new phenomenon graced the hills. The everyday circle loop of the sun enlarged, as though trying to consume the sullen world. Fear encapsulated the folks of the Harmonious Hill as they watched the sun spiral, assuming it to be the second apocalypse in line. 

In the foreboding silence, a tiny speck of white emerged from the enormous sun, descending to the sky. As it journeyed closer, the birds serenaded its descent. It was a seed, glowing white and vibrant against the black skies. 

Upon reaching the cold ground, it burrowed into the heart of Harmonious Hill. Silence fell once more; the sun receded to its normal loop. Days turned into nights, and nights into days.

Then, in the stillness of a frosty dawn, the seed burst forth from the ice-cold soil. A majestic tree, unlike any Taiga trees, flourished. It sprouted not just leaves, but colors. Colors of hope, resilience, and rejuvenation. It shone vibrantly, piercing through the eternal fog.

The birds sang, and their melodies turned from dirges to ditties of joy. The people in the houses awoken from their centuries-old slumber, stepping out for the first time into the fresh, thawing world. As they saw the growing tree of colors, they weaved stories of a new beginning, a world reborn. 

In the realm of lines and monochromes, the world of Harmonious Hill thus welcomed hope, banishing its perpetual sadness into a tale of survival and rebirth. The apocalypse became a fable of transcendence, of how desolate lives could burgeon anew, in the miraculous world of art.

EX-LIBRIS is a project that came to be only 3 days before taking my flight to the Artblocks Marfa Weekend in September. I wanted to make a couple of nice bookmarks to give to my friends there. Even though I only made 32, I saw the potential of that particular format with that algorithm. I really like them and what they meant to me so I decided to immortalize this project on the blockchain :)

Mixed Memories

11/12/2023: This is a working project that I'm exploring with our daughter (14) as part of her STEM Fair project. She has done an amazing job learning to code! Our goal was to create something that was both achievable and that would be enjoyed by general STEM Fair enjoyors :). It's been humbling and inspiring to work on this with her! The STEM Fair event aligns with the date for this project... so we have some work to do! 
Update 11/16/2023: Made some adjustments to make it a little cleaner. Still working on more variations in the final drawing. 
Update 11/28/2023: We finally got around to adapting this for Fxhash 2.0. :) We finished the STEM Fair version of this project, which is the iteration we're called the "stacked ellipses". The stacked ellipses code was all written (with a little help!) by our daughter, super proud of her! For her STEM Fair event, we're planning to offer physical prints onsite for those who want to take a little piece of art home :). I'll post some of the action on Twitter @tendernode. For the final Fxhash project, I collaborated with her to add a couple more possible outputs that you'll see in the final mints. 

Fxhash 2.0 Tribute

After curating Tyler Hobbs & Indigo's QQL extensively through Year 1 (6 minted QQLs, hundreds of hours spent in the algorithm & millions of outputs generated), for Year 2 of QQL I'm exploring a different QQL vertical each month.

For the month of November, I've focused on "studying" single rings. And that's where a generative artwork, One Ring, comes into place. It's my rendition (all original code) to the QQL algorithm and its nuclear element. I'm creating editions that portray a single ring in different formats but subtracted enough from QQL that it has its own singular life.

You'll find rings with up to 12 bands, unusual ring formation and unseen color combinations.

Canvas is adaptable to any resolution and rings will present themselves as a close up and (almost) never in full. 

Through fx(params) collectors will be able to generate their "One Ring" with their unique palette.
