All about that grain
Images in digital art and photography are frequently purposefully perturbed with grainy textures, often intending to evoke a tactile feeling and to add an ounce of ruggedness to an artwork. In this manner, grain is a valuable tool on your generative artist tool belt to elevate your artwork. This article discusses several techniques to achieve grain with p5, texture overlays, SVG filters, and shaders. We’ll discuss each one in great detail and the ups and downsides.
The Value of Art: Thoughts on the #5TezCollection Challenge
The #5TezCollection challenge brought me excitement and awe, and also sadness and frustration. As artists, what does it mean to see our work undersell? As collectors, how do we best support artists?
#5TezCollection
Showcasing my #5TezCollection contribution. I will win no contests because I made no attempt at volume. I did not want to over emphasize how ridiculously we undervalue our artists, so I focused on pieces priced at .5tz to 3tz, and I collected works I genuinely valued for the art rather than the price.
Draw that seed!
Pensado a mano explores the intersection of Generative Art and Hand Drawing. The collector, by drawing a predefined number of shapes on canvas, creates a unique hand-crafted seed that generates the final artwork. That is the only customisable param, thought by hand, which interacts with various random attributes to produce a unique composition. Together with Piter Pasma's 'Universal Rayhatcher', we have now two speculative uses of fx(params) that transform fx(hash) into a real co-creating platform. I don't know if these can be called Generative Art, but they are definitely an interesting way for artists to collaborate with the community.
